Arthur McMahon is an independent author of fiction and non-fiction, adventure journalist, and host of the Better Hiker blog & podcast.

Arthur’s passion for writing began as a child when he discovered that he preferred writing essays to taking exams. The written word was his comfort, maybe even his crutch. Arthur always felt that writing down his thoughts and feelings made them more real, that putting them on paper or a laptop gave them more value than the spoken word could ever hold. He has found that the act of writing has been a valuable tool in processing life’s jumble of neuronic misfirings.

Fiction never loosens its hold on his thoughts. Frostarc is Arthur’s debut novel, and his Shadow Assassin novellas are set in the same space-pioneering universe. Reviews have praised Arthur for his suspenseful writing and exciting action.

Arthur also enjoys recording the world which surrounds him. His backpacking journeys and other escapades have been recorded in numerous articles and in his own published trail journal, Adventure and The Pacific Crest Trail. Hiking and camping had always been a regular part of Arthur’s life, but his 2015 thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail sparked a passion for the outdoors that continues to this day. He hasn’t stopped crushing miles since. Arthur has walked thousands of trail miles and has written articles for established outdoor organizations such as the Pacific Crest Trail Association, the Pacific Crest Trailside Reader, and he contributes regularly to Backpackers.com.

Arthur grew up in Bayonne, New Jersey and later moved to Oregon where he earned his BS in Journalism from the University of Oregon. After college he relocated to Boston, MA and then spent a few years in the San Francisco Bay Area before returning to Oregon where he now resides in Eugene with his beautiful wife Jillian and their dog Huckleberry.

As a self-proclaimed nomad and traveler, Arthur will always have new stories to tell.

Glad to have you around. Let’s enjoy the journey together.

Cheers.
