“The world is yours for the taking,” I was told all through my college years, “your opportunities are endless and the future is bright.” Professors, parents, fellow students and complete strangers always found a way to drill it home that with my degree I would be able to do anything– I could get the job I want, conquer the world, have my cake and eat it too.

I hate cake, really. The spongy sugar doesn’t please my palette. Fact is I’m a young adult with a college degree in journalism that I grabbed from some dean’s hand as I walked across a stage two years ago. My current career is an assistant manager at a grocery store deli in a farm/college town that isn’t even big enough to have a shopping mall. I make peace with myself by agreeing with everyone’s pitiful opinion that it’s just the current economy weighing me down and I’ll find something better when it picks up. I reinforce my spirits with a half-assed effort to pursue a career as a creative writer, banking on the hope that one day I’ll make my big break.

And so, in another attempt to push my career as a writer, I have created this website. Through all the freelance writing I have done for others I have always wondered why I bother writing for those who don’t appreciate my content and like to nickel and dime me for every cent they can keep. It’s not all about the money, but I do need to support myself, a simple but true fact. The more I write, the more income I can accrue on my own merit, and the further I can distance myself from a disparaged and greasy life in the deli. It’s not that I think my life sucks. I have a wonderful life, but that shouldn’t stop me from pursuing my dreams. I hope you enjoy reading my words just as much as I enjoy creating them.

Let’s go for a ride, shall we?

Cheers.

I’m glad you are pursuing your dreams. :) There is no better time to try and make it as a new writer than now. With social media and a crap load of self-publishing options out there, I think the hardest thing to do would be to find the “right readers” to bond with your material…and still, that’s easier to do now than before.

Love your site btw. Hope you do well, and remember to put in your ten thousand hours :)
